Green Vehicles
Green vehicles are basically vehicles that are more efficient and less polluting. This means green vehicles are good for both your wallet and the environment. There are many kinds of greens vehicles:
- Conventional hybrid electric vehicle (HEV)
- Plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEV)
- Electric vehicles (EV)
- Flex Fuel Vehicles (FFV)
- Compressed natural gas vehicles (CNG)
- Electric bicycles
- Mopeds
Conventional Hybrid Electric Vehicles
Conventional hybrid electric vehicles have a conventional internal combustion engine and an electric power system. Hybrid electric vehicles get better fuel economy with less tailpipe emissions. For additional information about conventional HEVs go to Wikipedia and EPA.gov.
Plug-in hybrid vehicles
PHEVs have rechargeable batteries and an electric motor. But as in gasoline vehicles, PHEVs also have a gasoline tank and an internal combustion engine. Some PHEVs operate exclusively, or almost exclusively, on electricity until the battery is nearly empty. The batteries are charged by plugging into an external electric power source. Then gasoline is burned in the engine to provide additional power. Other PHEVs—sometimes called “blended mode” PHEVs—use both gasoline and electricity to power the vehicle while the battery is charged. For additional information about PHEVs go to Wikipedia and EPA.gov.
